This peppermint bark recipe takes ten minutes and only three ingredients and is a great Ghirardelli peppermint bark copycat recipe.

BEST EASY PEPPERMINT BARK RECIPE (ONLY 3 INGREDIENTS)

Every year my husband requests Ghirardelli peppermint bark in his Christmas stocking, and I have spent hundreds of dollars on that stuff over the years. This year I’ve been obsessively following along with content creators who are hand making Christmas gifts for their loved ones and brainstorming fun things I could do for mine.

A homemade version of peppermint bark was the easiest idea for my husband because he’s truly obsessed with anything peppermint. If you’re looking for an easy homemade sweet treat to gift neighbors, friends or coworkers, this is a great idea that won’t break the bank!

Luckily, I had a couple broken candy canes left over from my kids’ school parties along with some white and semi sweet chocolate in the pantry. This easy Christmas dessert cost me zero dollars out of pocket. I even used some tissue paper and a cookie tin I had on hand for this special surprise that I’m sure will be requested by him for many years to come.

This three ingredient peppermint bark recipe includes only two types of chocolate plus crushed candy canes!

WHY THIS PEPPERMINT BARK RECIPE WORKS

Minimal ingredients: With only three simple ingredients you’ll likely already have on hand during the holiday season, this recipe couldn’t be more convenient.

No Bake: The holiday season is busy enough that we don’t always have time to make intricate desserts. This recipe requires only the use of your microwave and freezer and is SO simple to make.

Great for Gifting: You can make a huge batch of these to gift to neighbors, friends, or coworkers.

Customizable: You can customize different types of bark for different people based on their preferences. Use whatever types of chocolate you like and change up the toppings too. I love milk chocolate with crushed Heath bars on top but the sky is the limit! It’s also fun to add sprinkles for the kiddos.

Easy: This recipe couldn’t be easier. Simply melt white and semi sweet chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments, layer the chocolate, and top with crushed candy canes.

10 Minutes: This entire recipe takes around 10 minutes start to finish, including time to set the chocolate in the freezer. You’ll need 90 seconds each to melt your two types of chocolate, a couple minutes to layer the chocolate and crush candy canes, then around 5 minutes in the freezer to harden.

Kid Friendly: This is a great simple recipe to let kiddos help with. They’ll have a blast breaking candy canes and “decorating” the melted chocolate with the candy and sprinkles.

Affordable: During the holiday season, chocolate chips are usually on sale for a great price and candy canes are also an inexpensive ingredient that can be found at dollar stores. You don’t have to break the bank to make this festive treat!

INGREDIENTS IN CHOCOLATE PEPPERMINT BARK:

  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips (or dark chocolate)
  • 3 squares of almond bark (or one cup white chocolate chips)
  • 2 candy canes
  • Optional: Sprinkles

EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

  • Baking Sheet
  • Silicon Baking Mat or Parchment Paper
  • Microwave
  • Mirowave safe bowl or measuring cup
  • Freezer
Melt chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments then spread into a thin layer on parchment paper or a silicon baking mat.

HOW TO MAKE MICROWAVE PEPPERMINT BARK:

This is so easy it’s nearly impossible to mess up!

  1. Line baking sheet with parchment paper or silicon baking mat (I love the Amazon brand for an affordable option or Silpat brand if you’re feeling fancy!)
  2. Crush candy canes and set aside. You can use a mallet or a heavy skillet.
  3. Melt semi-sweet or dark chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments until melted. This should take approximately 90 seconds.
  4. Spread a thin layer of the semi sweet chocolate on the lined baking sheet.
  5. Melt white chocolate or almond bark in 30 second increments until melted. This should take approximately 90 seconds.
  6. Spread a thin layer of the white chocolate on top of the dark chocolate on the lined baking sheet.
  7. Quickly spread crushed peppermint and sprinkles on top of white chocolate and gently press down so they stick to the chocolate.
  8. Place in the freezer for 5-10 minutes until hardened.
  9. Remove from the silicon liner or parchment paper and break into small pieces.
Use a mallet or heavy skillet to crush the candy canes.

STORAGE

It is recommended to store this peppermint bark in the fridge until serving in order to avoid melting.

I have not tried to store this bark in the freezer but it should work just fine!

SImply chop or break the hardened chocolate peppermint bark into pieces and put in a cookie tin to gift to a friend!
