Easy One Pan Chicken Parmesan
I am many things, and predictable is certainly one of them. Any time my husband and I sit down at an Italian restaurant, he jokingly asks what I’m going to order because he KNOWS it’s going to be chicken parm. Every. Single. Time. What can I say? I like what I like.
I love making chicken parmesan at home too but pan frying chicken cutlets is a bit of a pain, and I hate making such a mess on my stovetop only to still need to bake the chicken with the sauce and cheese after.
Thus, this simple sheet pan oven baked chicken parmesan recipe was born.
This simple recipe will make any random weeknight feel like an Italian restaurant date night, and frankly… I can’t think of much that sounds better than that.
WHY THIS EASY OVEN BAKED CHICKEN PARMESAN RECIPE WORKS
Easy: Buy thin sliced chicken breasts and your favorite marinara sauce. Coat the chicken in bread crumbs and parmesan. Toss in the oven and you’re well on your way to a delicious dinner.
Under 30 minutes: This recipe can be made in about 30 minutes, including time to preheat the oven. While the chicken bakes, you can boil some pasta or toss a nice salad to serve on the side if you’d like! We often serve it with a steam in the bag vegetable like broccoli or green beans for an easy side.
Hands Off: Most of the time needed for this recipe is hands off time. You’ll get a *little* messy for a couple minutes while you bread the chicken, but after that the oven does all the work for you.

INGREDIENTS:
- Thin Sliced Chicken Breasts: You can buy whole breasts and slice them thin yourself but to save time, purchase thin sliced breasts. You can also use chicken tenderloins for this recipe.
- Bread Crumbs: Panko is my preferred type of bread crumb because they are crispier than regular breadcrumbs. I use plain and add my own seasonings but you can also buy Italian style pre-seasoned bread crumbs.
- Parmesan Cheese: Mix parmesan cheese in with your bread crumbs and add extra on top along with the mozzarella.
- Mozzarella Cheese: Fresh mozzarella is best or you can buy the blocks and shred your own.
- Marinara Sauce: Feel free to make your own if you’re extra fancy or use your favorite store bought option. I love Rao’s but Mezzetta makes another great sauce with minimal ingredients at about half the price of Rao’s.
- Seasonings: Use salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning to taste.

HOW TO COOK ONE PAN CHICKEN PARMESAN
- Preheat the oven to 425.
- If using chicken breasts, slice the chicken horizontally to create thin breasts or cutlets. If using thin sliced chicken breast you may still choose to pound it thinner. Thickness of breasts will impact cooking time – the thicker the breast, the longer the cooking time.
- Beat one egg and add it to a rimmed plate or shallow bowl.
- In a separate bowl combine panko bread crumbs with garlic powder, italian seasoning, parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper.
- Dip each chicken breast in egg mixture then into bread crumbs. Coat liberally. Add the chicken to a sheet pan lined with parchment paper or a silicon mat.
- Bake for 15 minutes then flip.
- Add marinara and shredded mozzarella to each breast then add the chicken back to the oven until the cheese is melted and lightly browned and chicken has reached 165 degrees internally, approximately 10 minutes. As someone who struggles with overcooking chicken, I swear by my wireless digital meat thermometer. Truly a game-changer.
- Optional: Broil to brown cheese for approximately 1-2 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning.
