Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe With Greek Yogurt
My whole family (aside from our two year old daughter) is chicken wing obsessed. To be honest, as much as I love eating a good chicken wing, I definitely don’t love making them at home. I don’t like separating the drums and flats, and I don’t like making a mess while deep frying them. I almost always prefer to get my wings at restaurants.
Buffalo chicken dip, on the other hand, is a different story. I LOVE making it with leftover rotisserie chicken or making fresh boneless skinless chicken breasts in the crockpot especially to be used in this creamy and delicious recipe.
It’s perfect for parties and unlike many other snack foods, actually fills you up thanks to the protein from the chicken and greek yogurt!
Use leftovers to make buffalo chicken wraps by adding warmed dip with lettuce, tomato, and a dash of ranch or blue cheese to your wrap of choice.
Most people don’t think of buffalo chicken or buffalo chicken dip as a super healthy option, but this version is lightened up by using reduced fat cream cheese, light ranch, and plain greek yogurt. It’s protein packed, filling, and delicious!
WHY THIS GREEK YOGURT BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP RECIPE WORKS
Minimal ingredients:
Featuring only chicken, cream cheese, greek yogurt, ranch, and buffalo sauce, you’ll likely have many of these items in your fridge already.
Flavorful:
Served with your favorite tortilla chips, crackers, or veggies it’s a delicious appetizer or snack. The creaminess of the greek yogurt and cream cheese paired with the tang of the buffalo sauce and ranch are like a party in your mouth!
Easy:
This recipe is SO easy. Simply add all ingredients to a crockpot or oven safe dish and cook until warm. If you don’t already have shredded chicken on hand you can make your own by cooking chicken in your crockpot and shredding OR you can use canned chicken. I’m normally a canned chicken hater, but it’s actually pretty good in this recipe in a pinch!
Crockpot:
This recipe can be made in the crockpot, in the oven, or even in the microwave! Whatever is easiest for you. Directions for each cooking method can be found below.
Perfect for Parties:
This recipe is ALWAYS a hit at parties. I like to serve it straight from the crockpot and bring a platter of carrots, celery, cucumber spears, and tortilla chips for dipping.

INGREDIENTS
Shredded Chicken:
This recipe is a PERFECT use for leftover rotisserie chicken. Otherwise you can add a couple chicken breasts with some broth and cook on high for four hours on high or 6-8 on low then shred the chicken for your dip.
Cream Cheese:
You *could* use all greek yogurt in this recipe for the “healthiest” option but I’ve found that using SOME cream cheese improves the texture and taste significantly.
Greek Yogurt:
Replacing much of the cream cheese found in traditional buffalo chicken dip recipes with greek yogurt, adds protein and reduces the fat and calorie content of this dip. The added protein makes it even more filling than usual!
Buffalo Sauce:
Make your own or use my personal favorite, Sweet Baby Rays. Optionally, add some Texas Pete Hot Sauce for added heat.
Ranch Dressing:
This is optional but my family loves adding a bit of ranch dressing to the dip. You can choose powdered ranch seasoning or a bit of your favorite bottled dressing. We LOVE the Trader Joe’s refrigerated ranch dressing because it has a heavy dill flavor and we also like to use the Bolthouse yogurt based ranch dressing. Hidden Valley also makes a great low fat ranch dressing that works well here.
HOW TO COOK HEALTHY BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP:
Crockpot:
Add all ingredients to the crockpot on low and cook until warmed through. Stir well and serve directly from the crockpot if desired.
Oven:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Soften cream cheese in the microwave in 30 second increments until able to stir.
- Add cream cheese and all other ingredients into oven safe dish and back for approximately 20 minutes until warmed through.
Microwave:
- To a microwave safe bowl add cream cheese and microwave in 30 second increments until softened.
- Add all other ingredients to the bowl, stir, and microwave in 30 second increments until warmed through.

STORAGE
Buffalo chicken dip can be stored in an airtight container for up to four days. I don’t recommend freezing as the dip can separate when thawed.
